The projects include the construction of classroom blocks, kindergarten (KG) facilities, a health compound with nurses’ quarters, and seven mechanised boreholes.
The initiative forms part of efforts to improve access to essential social services and address some of the infrastructure needs of residents in the municipality.
In the education sector, the construction of classroom and KG blocks is expected to provide more conducive learning environments for pupils and teachers. Improved school infrastructure can help reduce pressure on existing facilities and support effective teaching and learning, particularly at the basic education level.
The health project, which includes a health compound and nurses’ quarters, is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery by providing improved facilities for health workers and residents. The provision of accommodation for nurses could also help make it easier to attract and retain health personnel, especially in communities where accommodation remains a challenge.
Access to safe drinking water is another key component of the development programme. The seven mechanised boreholes are intended to improve water supply and reduce the difficulties residents may face in obtaining clean water for household use.
Reliable access to potable water is essential for public health, sanitation and general wellbeing. The borehole projects are therefore expected to support efforts to improve living conditions in beneficiary communities.
The combination of educational, health and water infrastructure projects reflects the Assembly’s focus on addressing basic community needs through investments in essential public services.
The successful completion of the projects will be important in ensuring that residents benefit from improved educational facilities, better access to healthcare and a more reliable supply of safe drinking water.
The initiative underscores the importance of local government investment in infrastructure that directly supports community development and improves the quality of life of residents in the West Akim Municipality.
