Drug use poses major risk to the future of our youth – LaDMA MCE

This is the reason the Assembly is in talks with stakeholders in the municipality to find lasting solution to the menace.
Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive, Alfredos Anyetei disclosed that in collaboration with the Municipal Director of Education, they are in talks with the local council of Churches, the Muslim Community, traditional authorities as well as youth groups in the township for lasting solution to the problem in order to secure the future of the youth.
According to him, as a stop-gap measure, the Municipal Security Council has tasked the police to fish-out the peddlers and halt the transition of the drugs to the municipality.
This, he disclosed led to the arrest of huge qualities of these drugs last week and they intend to intensify the raid to achieve greater result.
The MCE asserted that one strategy worth bringing on board for better result would be education and sensitization, which would be done in collaboration with identified institutions and recognised groups to raise awareness to the dangers associated with these drugs.
Mr Alfredos Anyetei who admitted that the development is having negative impact in school enrolment in the municipality as a number of the youth simply refuses to avail themselves for school said the Assembly is also contemplating some form of sanction to parents who fail to ensure their children are in school.
