Ghanaians who want to boost their livelihood with extra source of income now have the chance for their dreams to be realized by only reporting suspected cases of Guinea worm infestations to health facilities and receive Ghc200 for free.

The cash reward is part of government’s efforts to completely eradicate Guinea worm infestations from the country.

Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Mr. Sam Atukwei Quaye, who made this known during the Assembly’s General Meeting, held recently said Ghana was at the verge of being certified Guinea worm free country in 2014.

On improvements being made in the health sector within the Ga West Municipality, the MCE said in 2013 they witnessed improvement in the health services indicators.

“Just to list a few, coverage of Anti-Natal Care (ANC) was 90%, HIV amongst pregnant women was 1.8%, BCG was 94%, skilled birth attendants was 56%, and malaria case fatality amongst under 5 years old was 0%,” he indicated.

On challenges the MCE said the nutritional status of the children under 5 years and Anaemia amongst pregnant women continues to be a challenge within the municipality.

“15% of children under 5 years had some level of malnutrition. 48% of pregnant women were Anaemic at 36 weeks of pregnancy,” he added.

Mr. Quaye further added that Kotoku Health Centre has been added to the number of facilities to serve the communities in the northern part of the municipality adding that community health officers have also been assigned to the electoral areas to work with the Assembly members in addressing some of the health issues that bedevil the communities.
