The Techiman North District Assembly (TNDA) which was created in 2012 from Techiman Municipal Assembly as part of bringing governance to the door steps of the people, and development to the people has made significance strides and progress in development.

A number of development projects have been carried out to improve the quality of lives of the people in the District.

Mr Anthony Kwaku Marnu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North Assembly, in his sessional address on the occasion of the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Second session of the Assembly at Tuobodom, outlined the achievements the new Assembly has chalked for the past one year.

Infrastructural development
On Infrastructural development, he said three (3) unit classroom blocks for Krobo Community Nursing Training School has been completed and handed over to the school. Currently, he said bungalows for DCE, Co-ordinating Director and staff were at different levels of completion.

Also, under construction in the District were two unit classroom blocks at Krobo and one (1) at Atrensu, funded by the Ghana Education Trust (GETFUND).

The DCE was happy to add that the Community Water and Sanitation Agency was also funding the construction of two (2) Institutional Latrines at Tuobodom and Atrensu.

He noted that some of the on-going projects when completed will go a long way in reducing the infrastructural deficit in the District.

Land banks
The DCE also said that the Assembly was currently acquiring land banks including final disposal sites to accelerate private sector development and waste management in the District.

He added that the creation of the land banks would cater for future requirements of infrastructure projects in the district.

This, he noted, would not only alleviate the hurdles in developing infrastructure in the district, but also, creating land bank was significant in planning for infrastructure and industrial asset development in balanced manner.

To be able to finance more development project in the newly created District, the DCE said Strategic plans to improve revenue mobilisation by 20% in 2014 had been recommended by the Executive Committee of the Assembly.

He urged the Assembly members to make use of unit committee members to identify existing and potential revenue sources within their electoral areas.

“I therefore wish to extend an invitation to my entire Honourable members to also come up with workable solutions to this ever present challenge”, he appealed.

Health
On health, the DCE said the Assembly intends to maximise the benefits of a healthy district. He added that the intervention policies of the Assembly included the provision of improved sanitation facilities, integration of potable water and hygiene promotion.

Other interventions he mentioned includes the Defunct water and sanitation teams (WATSAN) in communities within the District which were being activated while new ones were also been formed to oversee projects and activities relating to water and sanitation.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly Mr Amoako Atta, advised the Assembly members to remain united and support the Assembly so that they can benefit from the needed development in their respective areas.
