All drinking spots and other points of sale of alcohol in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashante region have been banned from operating on Thursday 29th August 2013, the day on which the Supreme Court will give the verdict of the 2012 election petition case.
The District Security Council (DISEC) took the decision after a security meeting as a measure to deal with the security threats in the area.
Speaking to the media, the District Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Donkor Fuseini stated that drinking spots will be forbidden to operate on that fateful day to avoid a situation where after the verdict has been announced; unruly youth would resort to drinking and engaging in criminal acts.
He noted that the security apparatus in the District has been put on high alert to quell any acts of anarchy that may result, especially as security in Drobonso, the District capital has been threatened in recent times through criminal acts by some youth in the area.
Hon. Donkor Fuseini was confident that the measure adopted would go a long way in maintaining peace and order in the area.
Ghanaians eagerly await the verdict of the election petition which would validate the Presidency of President John Dramani Mahama or declare Nana Akufo Addo as the rightful President, or further more rule for a run off of the 2012 Presidential election.
Ahead of 29th August there has been an expression of fear by a section of the public of anarchy after the declaration but the security agencies have continuously assured and demonstrated their readiness to deal with miscreants who would want to disturb the peace the country is currently enjoying.
