PRESTEA-HUNI VALLEY : Gold robbery case under investigation
The Western Regional Police Command has started investigations into an armed robbery case involving 9.5 kilograms of gold valued 266,000 dollars from the cold room of Sankofa Gold at Prestea.

The Western Regional Police Command has started investigations into an armed robbery case involving 9.5 kilograms of gold valued 266,000 dollars from the cold room of Sankofa Gold at Prestea.
Briefing the Times, the Regional Police Commander, Hamidu Mahama, said though the robbery took place on Tuesday, October 20, it was the following day that it was reported to the police who immediately began investigations.
He said reports indicated that about 8pm on Tuesday, while five workers of Sankofa Gold were packaging gold in a cold room, two masked men entered and pounced on them in a scuffle during which the robber’s gun fell from his hands.
DCOP Mahama siad the other four workers fled the scene, In the ensuing melee, one of the armed men picked up the gold from the box and ran away with it.
Meanwhile, he said the four workers had been arrested for questioning.
"We suspect an internal collaboration in the theft and so we have dispatched a high powered team of investigators to appraise the company’s security network".
DCOP Mahama said his outfit was determined to get to the bottom of the matter.
