President John Evans Atta Mills Administration has unveiled plans to upgrade Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital, to offer specialist services and attract more medical personnel.

The President announced this at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Kwahu North District at Donkorkrom , as part of his three-day visit of the Eastern Region to thank the people for voting into power the National Democratic Congress.

He announced that the government would provide two additional pontoons to help ease the transportation of farm produce from the Afram Plains, which is gradually becoming the food basket of the country to marketing centres.

Prof. Mills explained that, the pontoons were already in the country but needed some parts to be operational.

He assured the youth that his government would invest in them and advised them to take advantage of the various projects being implemented in the district and acknowledge that their future is in agriculture, which is the surest road to wealth creation.

Prof. Mills advised beneficiaries of the financial package that goes with the various income generating ventures that, they have to work with the money and pay back.

He warned that his government would pursue those who would not pay back the loans.

Prof. Mills directed the District Chief Executive to collaborate with the Regional Co-ordinating Council to ensure that more projects under the self- help electrification project is extended to some communities at the Afram Plains.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Joe Gidisu said the Millennium Development Authority, would by next week commence the construction of an- all- weather- road to connect the district to the rest of the country through Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

He said his ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, had contracted a loan of 35 million Dollars from the African Development Bank out of which 32 million dollars would be used to construct roads at very deprived and neglected areas of the District.

The Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo said the construction of school blocks for 24 schools in the district would commence during the 2009-2010 academic year.

He said the District Directorate of Education had indicated the need for more teachers in the area, hence the initiative by the district assembly to sponsor the training of more than 80 teachers to augment the situation.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the district has also managed to get 129 newly trained teachers to agree to work in the communities.

As part of the visit, the President inaugurated the office buildings and bungalows for officials of the Afram Plains District Agricultural Development Project.
