The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly on Wednesday presented a cheque for GH¢ 1,000 to the district’s disabled association to support its activities.
This is in fulfillment of the mandatory requirement that two per cent of District assemblies’ share of the Common Fund should be allocated to disabled persons.
Mr S.O Kusi Appiah, Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director, presenting the cheque, said he was hopeful that the money would be put to beneficial use.
He assured the association that one of its members would be appointed to the assembly to articulate the concerns of the disbled at the assembly’s meetings.
Mallam Issa Kabore, Interim Chairman of the Association, said they were grateful to the assembly for the money.
It would be recalled that members of the association went on a street demonstration last week to demand immediate payment of their share of the Common Fund.
