As part of efforts to bring quality health care delivery services to the doorsteps of the rural deprived, the Wa East District Assembly has constructed five Community -based Health Planning and services (CHPS) compounds at a cost of GH¢1,100.

The CHPS componds are located at Onwe, Kpaglaghi, Duu, Danyawkura and Jayiri.

The District Chief Executive for Wa East, Mr. Ameen Salifu, announced this when he inaugurated a GH¢220 CHPS compound at Kattah.

The contruction of the CHPS compound was jointly funded by the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Wa East District Assembly with the community providing communal labour.

This brings to nine the number of CHPS compounds functioning and operating in the district.

Mr Salifu said the assembly is in the process of providing furniture, beds and equipment for the newly constructed CHPS compounds, after which they would be inaugurated and put into operation before the close of the year.

He said it is the projection of the assembly to construct 22 CHPS compounds by the year 2015 and that no effort would be spared to attain the target.

He urged the people to availthemselves with voluntary counselling and testing services being provided in health facilities to know their status and lead responsible lives.

Mr Dumba advised the people to desist from discriminating against persons infected with HIV/AIDS urging them to rather show concern and support for them.

The District Director told members of the community to encourage pregnant women to visit antenatal clinicsat least four times before delivery.
