The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has put in place measures to help reverse the falling standard of education in the area.
The measures include the re-organisation of all school management committees (SMCs) and Parents Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the district.
Mr Isaac Amono, District Director of Education, made this known at a meeting of headteachers in the district at Ajumako.
He said all the 120 headteachers pledged to re-new their commitment to teaching and learning, and expressed support for the measures.
As part of the measures school performance appraisal meetings would be conducted to discuss performances of schools in examinations, he said.
Mr Amono said in addition reading, composition, and quizzes would be held on radio and winners awarded, while non-performing schools would be supported by special classes to improve their performance.
The Director expressed concern about indiscipline and immoral practices in schools and charged headteachers to team up with their teachers and opinion leaders to curb the trend, adding that any teacher who gets involved in sexual relations with a school girl would not be spared.
