SEWFI WIAWSO : Expedite ICT programmes in colleges of education
The National Conference Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has appealed to the Ministry of Education (MOE) to expedite action on the implementation of Information Communication (ICT) programmes in colleges of education would equip teacher trainees with the requisite skills and knowledge that would enhance effective teaching and learning in schools.

The National Conference Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has appealed to the Ministry of Education (MOE) to expedite action on the implementation of Information Communication (ICT) programmes in colleges of education would equip teacher trainees with the requisite skills and knowledge that would enhance effective teaching and learning in schools.
The President of PRINCOF, Mr E.K Osei, who made the appeal during the 51st annual conference and workshop of the organisation held at Sefwi Wiawo stressed that the acquisition of knowledge in all fields "including reading and numeracy skills without computer sills in the era of education is an incomplete form of education"
The workshop was on the theme "Colleges of Education as Tertiary Institutions; Prospects and Challenges", was aimed at sensitising head of various tertiary institutions in the country to assess their performance for the past years and also encourage them to re-strategise to enable them to meet the challenges.
Mr Osei pointed out that the culture and practice of traditional memory based learning would be transformed to stimulate thinking and creativity to meet challenges in the job market through better ICT training.
The Minister of Education, Mr Alex Tettey Enyo, challenged teacher trainees to be disciplined and focus on their academic programmes to enable them to excel in their schools and promote environmental cleanliness.
In a speech read on the minister’s behalf,he said it was equally important for PRINCOF to cultivate a culture of maintenance in their schools and promote environmental cleanliness.
The minister also tasked PRINCOF to embark on tracer studies, intended not only to monitor the performance of graduates, but also envisaged to improve the educational curriculum and he modality of teaching and learning in the country.
Mr Tetteh Enyo gave the assurance that the government would develop infrastructural facilities in all the 38 colleges of education nationwide.
He however urged the various colleges in the country to expand and improve on existing structures and facilities to enable them increase enrolment.
He also encouraged teachers to improve on their professional competence to make them good facilitators who will serve as channels for the transmission of knowledge and information.
