The Asikuma- Odoben Brakwa District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, at the weekend organised a day’s workshop on the effect of irresponsible parenting on girl- child education at Breman Asikuma.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF for executives of school management committees, parent- teacher associations, headmasters and teachers of basic schools and patrons of school clubs, drawn from Breman, Asikuma, Brakwa, Odoben and Anhwiam.
The District Director of Education Mrs. Felicia Opokuah Mallet appealed to the participants to put into practice the knowledge they have gained to the benefit of society.
She said male teachers have been banned from engaging the services of female pupils to curb sexual abuse, which was the major cause of school drop out in the district.
Mrs Mallet said the pupils have been educated on the need to report male teachers who harass them sexually to their parents and school authorities for disciplinary action to be taking against them.
