The Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin has said government is committed to encouraging private partnership in waste management. 

He said waste management is critical and therefore government will support any local venture that is ready to invest in the sector.

Hon. Bagbin was speaking at the inauguration of the Ghana Innovations Market Place (GIM) in Tamale. 

The GIM is a competition that seeks innovative strategic solutions to Ghana’s solid waste management.

The ceremony, which was attended by stakeholders in waste management was under the auspices of the World Bank in partnership with the government of Ghana and other development partners. 

According to Hon. Bagbin, it is the intention of government to grow Ghanaian businesses and advised stakeholders to take advantage of the project. 

Touching on the World Bank loans, he said the misconception that government should not go for the loans is out of place and as a customer of the World Bank, Ghana could go to it to seek any financial assistance. 

He added that the conditionalities set by the World Bank are only to ensure that the money lent is well utilized. 

The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday, asked the participants to take advantage of the programme and come out with proposals to compete among themselves.
