Dr. Senyo Attimpo, North Tongu District Director of Health Services, has appealed to men to go in for vasectomy as the safest way of planning their families.
He assured men in relationships that vasectomy did not constitute castration neither does it affect sexual ability.
Dr. Attimpo said this at the launch of “long term and permanent methods of contraception” at Juapong.
He advised couples to go in for long term methods of contraception such as Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices and Jadelle implants which are noted for their effectiveness.
Dr Atimpo said men often do not take issues of family planning seriously and advised them to change that attitude.
He said many family planning methods are simple, safe and quick surgical procedures which could help couples plan their families.
Dr. Attimpo said the family planning acceptance rate in the North Tongu District in 2008 stood at 17.1 and called on couples to engage in open and honest discussions on family planning issues to improve family well-being.
