The traders, who operate in one of the district three major markets, are struggling to sell their products due to the lack of adequate infrastructure.

The Akateng market, situated near the Volta Lake, is a vital trading hub, attracting traders from various parts of Ghana, including Kumasi, Tema, Akosombo, Accra, Koforidua, and Kasoa. However, the market proximity to the lake makes it prone to flooding, which often devastates goods and disrupts trading activities

Some traders spoke with Ghanadistricts Tv on the struggle they go through during the rainy season.

They said, the sheds provide traders with a dry and secure space to sell their goods, protecting them from rain and other harsh weather conditions.

They emphasized that; the infrastructure would not only benefit traders but also enhance the overall trading experience for customers.

A driver stated that, even though Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly has previously proposed relocating the market due to flood risks, traders and opinion leaders have expressed concerns about the potential impact on their businesses and livelihoods.
