The initiative, funded by the German organisation Kindermissionswerk, seeks to reduce rising cases of undernutrition among children in the district.

Speaking at the launch, the Bawku West District Director of the Ghana Health Service, Stephen Bordotsiah, expressed concern over the growing malnutrition situation in the district.

He explained that undernutrition continues to expose children to infections, poor physical growth, and developmental challenges, adding that persistent malnutrition could negatively affect the future productivity of children and the overall development of society.

Mr. Bordotsiah further noted that poor complementary feeding practices after the first six months of a child’s life remain a major cause of wasting and stunting among children.

The Board Chairman of IDEAS Ghana, Emmanuel Delwin Abarike, outlined some of the key components of the project, including support for women farmers to cultivate nutrient-rich crops.

He added that the project would also focus on nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, addressing harmful food taboos, and training young people within communities to serve as Child Nutrition Champions.

The Executive Director of IDEAS Ghana, Joseph Ayembilla, stressed the importance of community participation in ensuring the success of the project.

He appealed to traditional leaders and landowners to support the initiative by making land available for about 500 women expected to benefit from the agricultural component of the programme.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Braimah Baba Abubakari commended the initiative and described it as timely.

He encouraged stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, networking, and accountability to ensure the sustainability of the project.

The launch brought together representatives from the Ghana Health Service, the Department of Agriculture, World Vision Ghana, Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocesan Development Organisation (NABOCADO), traditional authorities, and Assembly Members.
