The campaign funded by Fan Milk Limited is under the theme “help keep Ghana clean: our surroundings”.

At the presentation ceremony in Atebubu, the national chairman of GNASBA Mr. Baffour Akwasi Oppong said his association has been engaged in school health and afforestation for over 22 years as a way of giving back to society what they benefited from government.

He said sanitation is key to good health and promised to come to the aid of the district in subsequent years.

Honorable Atindogo Tahiru who deputized for the District Chief Executive Mr. Eric Osei said environmental sanitation has become the responsibility of all and urged everyone to embrace the national sanitation day exercise.

He said the indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal in the district is a source of worry to the assembly and thanked GNASBA and their benefactor for the gesture.

Receiving the items the district director of education Mr. Edward Anlaakuu who chaired the functions described the day as historic.

He attributed 80% of deaths in Ghana to sanitation related diseases and welcomed the intervention.

Mr. Anlaakuu urged all beneficiary schools to use the bins for the intended purpose so as to encourage the donors to do more.

A clean up exercise involving school pupils had earlier taken place at various places within the Atebubu Township as part of the day’s activities.
