SAGNARIGU: DCE initiates moves to avert perennial flooding

Sagnarigu and its environs have been the worst hit areas in the recent floods within the Tamale and Sagnarigu districts which claimed four lives and left hundreds of residents homeless; a situation the DCE observed has further weakened the financial muscle of the already ailing assembly.
According to her, she is poised to hold stakeholder engagements in the interim as a possible strategy to whip up prevention education while engineers of the assembly assess the storm drains in the area to see what could be done about the situation.
“Things will be different from now because we have a strategy to ensure that we reduce the magnitude of flooding in the district and also support victims of other natural disasters. We will have to prevent lives and properties and the only way is have engagement such as this to brainstorm for the betterment of the district”.
The Sagnarigu DCE said, she deems the stakeholders meeting very necessary following the devastation caused by the recent floods in the area, adding that, the level of devastation is immeasurable.
“The effects of the floods still lingers on the minds of the victims …the trauma they went through was so sad especially the women and the aged who could not pick any of their valuable items. Many families are bereaved today as results of the floods. We cannot as a people allow this to happen again”. The DCE lamented
