The volunteers were taken through drill and fire fighting skills by firemen and provided with materials like Wellington boots, Cutlasses and Torch Light to assist them in the discharge of their mandate.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Mr. Benjamin Kingsley Koduah said, the group will sensitize the public, particularly, farmers, herdsmen, palm-wine tappers and game hunters on the devastating effect of bush fires on the country and the need for all well-meaning Ghanaians to get involved in preventing them and urged the volunteers to work diligently and to make judicious use of the materials provided them.
He therefore called on all stakeholders to intensify the educational campaign to create and sustain public awareness on the effects and consequences of bushfires on the economy of Ghana.
