NALAG President calls for swift confirmation of MMDCEs

The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Alfred Asiedu Adjei, has called for the swift confirmation of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) nominees, emphasizing the urgency of effective local governance.

He stressed that any delays in confirming these nominees could jeopardize the progress of local assemblies, impacting essential service delivery and development efforts at the grassroots level.

The President, who made the call when speaking at the launch of NALAG’s strategic documents at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on Wednesday, said Ghana’s development cannot afford unnecessary delays in confirming President’s nominees for MMDCE positions and thus charged members to eschew partisan politics but rather work in unity to ensure a speedy confirmation processes for all appointees.

He further urged Assembly Members to put community development above political and personal interests, adding that the people who elected them expect decisive leadership.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), has unveiled its strategic documents to serve as a framework to guide its activities in the coming years.

The strategic documents which involve Gender; Advocacy; and communication shall henceforth serve as compass to lead the Association into a new era.

The documents, which are rooted in research, shaped by stakeholder consultation and designed to enhance accountability, inclusivity and resilience in local governance are expected to reposition the association and ensure effectiveness and efficiency in local governance and decentralization.
