Kumasi will soon be installed with an all -in one solar street lights - Energy Minister
The Minister of Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has hinted that the City of Kumasi will soon be installed with all-in-one solar streetlights to replace the hydro ones to ensure efficiency and also reduce the burden on the government.

This was made known by the Minister during a stakeholder meeting at the KMA Conference Room on rolling out a solar street light project in the Ashanti Region.
According to him the project would cover a total area of 69.8 Kilometers which spans from the Manhyia South and North of KMA and the Tafo Municipal.
He further reiterated that the solar streetlights are self-cleansing and could last for a period of 10 years before it is replaced, again the project would train personnel from the electrical unit of KMA and Tafo Municipal Assembly on how to serve and maintain this new technology. He also added that the project duration is six months.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Samuel Pyne expressed his appreciation to the Minister for bringing the project to Kumasi, saying it was timely looking at the huge sums that the Assembly spends on maintaining the streetlights and the recent cable thefts in the metropolis.
