The projects included a six-unit classroom block at Asawase, CHPS compound with two accommodations facility to house two nurses at Old Abirem, 32 lockable stores at New Abirem and Police Post at Noyem.

In his address, the District Chief Executive for Birem North, Raymond Nana Damptey said all the four project were financed through the Assembly's Internal Generated Fund (IGF), particularly from the Mineral royalties received from Newmont Akyem mines.

Addressing the media after the commissioning, the honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour called on other Assemblies in the region to use part of their IGF to finance some physical projects. He said, this will motivate the citizens to honour their tax obligations.

He added that sometime, some of the Assembly rely solely on the District Assembly Common Fund to finance their infrastructure challenges.

This he said defeats the purpose and the concept of decentralization in local government.

Mr. Darfour also encouraged the people especially the youth to take advantage of the numerous government policies and programs such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, 1D1F etc to improve on their standards of living.

He reaffirmed government's commitment to ensure that everyone benefit from the scarce resources in the country. This according him is seen clearly in the Free Senior High School policy that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has implemented successfully.

Newmont Gold Corp, Akyem mines also donated a slightly used Toyota pickup to the Police Post to assist in their operations.
