Desist from stigmatizing COVID-19 infected persons – MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Mr. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu has advised Ghanaians against stigmatizing COVID-19 infected persons and their families.

He said the stigmatization was preventing families from willingly reporting relatives suspected to have the virus to health authorities for immediate testing and treatment.

He pointed out that unnecessary stigmatization was hampering the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.

The MP who doubles as the Western North Regional Minister also tasked the media to prioritized massive education on stigmatization to help people get a better understanding of the disease and the need not to be afraid of getting tested to know their status.

Mr Aboagye-Gyedu made this appeal when he was speaking at a short ceremony at Bibiani to hand over Ten Thousand pieces of nose masks to the Municipal Health Directorate for onwards distribution to the constituents.



He called on the people to strictly comply with the preventive protocols to prevent themselves and families from getting infected with the deadly disease.

Dr. Francis Takyi, the Municipal Health Director upon receiving the items thanked the Minister and the MCE for Bibiani Mr. Alfred Amoah for their collaborative efforts and assured them for a fair distribution of the nose masks to serve the purpose of which the items were donated for.

He urged the community members to inculcate the attitude of regular hands washing with soap under running water, wearing of nose masks, and maintain social distancing so as to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
