DAFIAMA: 1,200 farmers engaged under ‘Planting for Food and Job’ programme

A total of 1,200 farmers were engaged under the “Planting for Food and Job” programme in the Daffiama Bussie Issa District in the Upper West region.

The farmers were also assisted with 22,000 bags of fertilizer including NPK, urea and sulphate at affordable prices as means of motivating more farmers to participate in programme.

 

The planting for Food and Jobs programme is the government’s flagship agric programmes aimed at improving agric production and creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.  The programme rolled out in all 216 districts of the country involves the supply of farm resources such as high yielding and improved seedlings to participating farmers.

 

The programme, according to the government is targeted at creating jobs for 750,000 farmers who would be engage in the cultivation of maize, beans and millet among others.

 

Mr. Nadi Sanda Imoro, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, lauded the government’s intention to transform agriculture in the country by introducing the programme which is expected to create more jobs for the youth and ensure food security.

 

He underscored the importance of the programme and called on the youth to take active part rather than migrating to the city in search of non-existing jobs.
