Mayor Allotey made this known on Friday following a courtesy call by a delegation from the City of Savannah, led by its Mayor, Van R. Johnson II, to Accra as part of his official tour of Ghana.

Mayor Allotey told journalists that discussions were already underway to explore opportunities for investment in electric buses, which he said would provide a more sustainable and cost-effective transportation alternative for residents of Accra.

He disclosed that Mayor Johnson had mentioned a connection with a Hyundai company based in Savannah that manufactures electric buses and assured him of efforts to initiate talks for possible collaboration.

Mayor Allotey commended the partnership between the two cities for moving beyond ceremonial engagements to concrete action that benefits citizens, adding that the electric-powered Metro Mass Transit initiatives were “one of the many outcomes" from the ongoing collaboration.”

The visit by Mayor Johnson forms part of a broader tour of Ghana, which included stops in Cape Coast and Kumasi before ending in Accra.

Speaking to the media, Mayor Johnson said they decided to “save the best for last" and expressed admiration for his Accra counterpart, describing him as a bold and visionary leader.

He underscored the historical ties between Ghana and Savannah, noting that both cities shared not only a lineage but also a responsibility to advance development together.

He further expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of the partnership.

The Savannah delegation included Dwayne Stevens, former chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Commission; Marty Johnson, deputy assistant to the mayor; and Dr. Joseph Silver Sr., president of Silver and Associates.
