JASIKAN : Are the youth attracted to farming?
 | | | Youth engaged in farming | |
The number of people engaged in cocoa farming has increased over the years since the last massive bush burning that affected most farms in 1983 in the Jasikan district.
The district which happens to be the largest cocoa producing district is also one of the oldest districts in the country.
The increasing support of government in the form of loans, mass cocoa spraying against plant diseases and provision of accessible markets is enticing the youth especially into cocoa farming.
The DCE, Hon. Solomon Donkor, who did not mince words in stating these discoveries established that the future of cocoa production in this country will soar.
For him, as long as the situation continues in this state , the next five years will be an economically sound for people in the district especially the youth who are engaged in cocoa farming.
"The cocoa industry is seeing the light of day"said the DCE.
He also advised the farmers to form strong cooperatives so that they can access soft loans from the assembly and the banks to support their farms.
He reminded the farmers that, the countrys’ economy and cocoa industry suffers from any negative action, they take in line with cocoa farming.
