ASUTIFI N: Newmont hands over nursesâ€™ quarters to Assembly

Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) last Friday handed over a fully furnished 2-Unit semi-detached nurses’ quarters worth over GH¢60,438.84 to the Asutifi North District Assembly at Yawusukrom in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The General Manager, Environment and Social Responsibility of Newmont Ahafo Mine – Paul Sowley handed over the keys to the facilities to Alhaji Haruna Abdul-Salam, District Coordinating Director of Asutifi North.
Mr Sowley said in line with the company’s health and safety Values, the Ahafo Mine agreed to construct the project, following a request from the Asutifi North District Assembly and the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service.
Apart from serving as an accommodation facility for the staff, he said, the Yawusukurom nurses’ quarters would also help community members get access to stationed Health personnel.
Mr Sowly said “additionally, GTZ, a German Development Cooperation Agency, and a partner of Newmont Ahafo community development health programs, has provided new set of furniture for the quarters.
He called for support and co-operation from all stakeholders as this would go a long way to further strengthen the cordial relations between the company and the community.
The Asutifi North District Coordinating Director, Alhaji Haruna Abdul-Salam thanked Newmont for its support to the Assembly. He assured that the facilities would be put to good use and would also be maintained regularly to prevent it from deterioration.
