AMA:Gov’t acquires new dump site for Accra
 | | | Waste | |
Accra will soon have a new dumpsite which is to be located on a seventy-seven acre land acquired from the chiefs of Otinibi. The new dumpsite will process about 20,000 tonnes of waste when completed. It is expected to serve the Madina Municipal Assembly as well as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Madina MP Amadu Sorogho in an interview with XYZ News said the new dumpsite will bring a lot of relief to residents within Madina and beyond. Meanwhile, Manhyia-South MP Mathew Opoku Prempeh has called for comprehensive National Policy for waste management. Reports from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly estimate that the capital city produces about 2,200 tons of waste every day. About 80 percent of that is collected and disposed. But Matthew Opoku Prempeh says private stakeholders must join forces with the government in handling the situation.
