ADENTAN: Assembly holds workshop on local Gov’t capacity support project
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has held a workshop to raise public awareness and improve knowledge of Local Government Public Financial Management (PFM) in the Adentan Municipal Assembly.
The workshop was under the Local Government Capacity Support Project (LGCSP).
In a welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Vanlare Kakra noted that, the programme was necessary because it would build the capacity of the staff, media and citizens in the municipality.
According to her, the programme would be done through increase media coverage and information dissemination.
The Local Government Capacity Support project is a US$175.0 Million Government of Ghana-World Bank initiative targeting forty-six Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) and is to be implemented over a five year period,” she disclosed.
The Head of Social Accountability Unit at the Ministry, Mrs Irene Messiba in her presentation said, the LGCSP aimed at addressing some of the weaknesses in the current Ghana Decentralisation Framework, as well as strengthening the capacity of the media to report effectively on Local Government Public Financial Management (PFM) issues.
She added that, the media network would include the Information Services Department, local FM and TV Stations as well as newspapers and magazine publishers.
