ABURA: Assembly rolls out 2013 programmes and policies

The Abura Asebu Kwamankese District Assembly has roll-out its programmes and policies for 2013 under the “Better Ghana” agenda initiative following a directive from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) that all District Chief Executives (DCE’s) are to retain their positions until May 2013.
Speaking in an interview with Ghanaditricts.com, the DCE for the Assembly, Mr. William Ata-Mends noted that about 13 contracts have already been awarded and are expected to commence in the shortest possible time.
He said projects awarded include the extension of electricity to various areas in the district capital among other surrounding communities, construction of new classroom blocks in some selected communities and toilet facilities have all been awarded.
The DCE also noted that projects such as a 3 separate teacher quarters facility which was abandoned by the erstwhile Kuffour’s administration have all being completed and currently in use to improve the accommodation of teachers in the area.
He added that New Ebu, a subsurb community in the district has also been provided with a 3-unit classroom block while about 6 bore-holes in the district have been rehabilitated into mechanized ones.
Meanwhile, the DCE also noted that his outfit will today distribute free laptops to some basic and second cycle institutions as part of efforts to improve the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the area.
