Electorates at the Akatsi South District in the Volta Region are voting today in a by-election to elect a new member of parliament.

The bye-election has been necessitated by the elevation of the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho to the position of Speaker of Parliament.

Four candidates including Bernard Ahiafor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Progressive People Party’s (PPP) Anthony Tsikata and Evans Gadeto an independent candidate are in the race to be given the mandate to represent them at the august house.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has boycotted the election citing its resolve to contest the 2012 presidential election at the Supreme Court.
