TMA: GNFS to intensify education on fire in Tema

The Tema Regional Public Relations Unit of the Ghana National Fire Service is to intensify public education this year to help reduce fire outbreak in the Region.
Divisional Officer Two (DO2), Rosemary Brobby, Tema Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service who made this known when she released statistics on fire in the Region to Ghana News Agency said fire outbreaks in the Metropolis increased from 278 in 2011 to 370 in 2012.
DO2 Brobby said domestic fires topped the list with as many as 166 outbreaks in 2012 as against 128 in 2011.
She said electrical fires also increased from 14 in 2011 to 47 in 2012, while vehicular fires shot from 33 in 2011 to 48 in 2012.
The Tema Regional Fire PRO said bushfires increased from 13 in 2011 to 30 in 2012, while there was a slight increase in commercial fires from 31 in 2011 to 37 in 2012.
She said there was a reduction in industrial fire outbreak from 35 in 2011 to 25 in 2012.
DO2 Brobby advised the public to adhere strictly to safety measures to help prevent the rampant fire outbreak with its attendant loss of lives and property.
