BAWKU:Bawku violence is purely criminal-MCE

Bawku Municipal authorities have rejected claims that recent shooting incidents in the area are ethnic related.
Two days ago gun shots were fired in a suburb of Bawku leaving one person seriously injured.
On Monday night, one person was also confirmed dead and two others seriously injured in yet another shooting incident.
Some unidentified persons with AK47 rifles were reported to have opened fire on the young men last night. Bawku has seen tribal conflict between the two main tribes, the Mamprisis and Kusasis over the years.
But the Municipal Chief Executive, Abdulai Musah told XYZ News the incidents are purely criminal.
“I will describe it as purely a criminal activity because when there is going to be ethnic issues, you will find that it will be some skirmishes between one ethnic group and the other over an issue and that will escalate into a conflict but there has been nothing like that,” he explained.
He said the Security Council is working to find out exactly what triggered the chaos.
“It is shocking and unfortunate to see that someone can just decide to take the law into his own hands and go and fire at another person without any just cause,” he lamented
He also disclosed that several meetings are taking place to restore calm to Bawku.
