N JUABEN:The Eastern Region needs a Teaching Hospital - Dr Asare

Health care

Dr Daniel Asare, the Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, has said the promise of the government to provide the Eastern Region with a public university and a regional Hospital should lead to the establishment of a teaching hospital.

He said such facilities would help the country in the production of the necessary human resources to meet the health needs of the increasing population of the country.

Dr Asare was speaking at the Second Biennial Excellence Award Night of the Koforidua Regional Hospital at Koforidua at the weekend.

Dr Asare, who is the immediate past Medical Superintendent of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, explained that the user rate of the hospital is quiet high as compared to other regional hospitals and the provision of more modern health equipments would enhance performance of the staff and also satisfy the needs of the clients of the hospital.

He said any attempt to install new medical equipment at the old regional hospital facilities would be unnecessarily expensive and not cost effective.

The Medical Director of the Regional Hospital, Dr Kwame Anim Boamah said the hospital is one of the best in the country and had won several awards for its services to the public.

He announced that the management of the hospital had decided to rehabilitate all the wards of the hospital next year to improve upon the working environment at the hospital and also facilities for the clients of the hospital.

Dr Boamah expressed the hope that the awards would motivate the staff to improve upon their performance in the coming years.

On behalf of the management of the hospital, Dr Boamah expressed his appreciation to various organizations and individuals who sponsored the awards and contributed towards the organization of the night.

Thirty personalities who retired from the hospital this year were given awards.

Dr Asare, the CEO of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital won the distinguished personality award with Dr James Addy, the Eye Specialist of the hospital, wining the best professional award for medical doctors for the year under review.
