TAMALE: Northerners asked to preserve shea nut tree
|Shea nut|| |
The people of the Northern part of Ghana have been advised against the indiscriminate cutting down of shea nut trees since they are of economic value.
Madam Anna-Maria Fati Paul, Chairperson of the Northern Ghana Community Action Fund (NOGCAF), who made the call, said the shea nut tree is a gift from God and the people should jealously preserve it for the future generation.
She was addressing a sensitization durbar on the management and conservation of shea nut tree on Wednesday at Bunlung in the Savelugu District.
It was organized by the Northern Ghana Community Action Fund, a civil society organization, committed to projecting women’s interest, and Tungteiya Women Association, a shea butter processing group of 500 members.
Madan Fati Paul expressed worry that large tracks of land dominated by shea nut trees were being released for mango plantation.
Some members of the Tungteiya Women Association commended the NOGCAF for supporting them.
