AGONA E: NGO presents a cheque of GHs3,800 to Assembly
The Sankofa Franco-Ghana Friendship Association, an NGO, has presented a cheque of GH¢3,800 to the Agona East Assembly towards the completion of a modern toilet facility at Agona Mankrong Junction.
Presenting the cheque at Agona Nsaba, the district capital of Agona East, Mr Alfred Ohene-Akonor, President of the Association, said the amount was their counterpart fund towards the construction of the facility.
In October 2010, a survey was conducted by Sankofa Association with regards on sanitation at Mankrong in collaboration with the Assembly that led to a series of sensitisation programmes on the need for the people to adopt good hygiene practices to help prevent outbreak of communicable diseases.
In that vein the community stressed the need for the construction of a new toilet facility to replace an old toilet.
Mr Ohene-Akonor said the NGO contacted the French Embassy in Ghana for a grant to executive the project to help create conducive environment for the people to live in hygienic conditions.
He said the Embassy in June 2011 approved the request and had since contributed their quota towards the project, which was about 80 per cent complete.
Mr Martin Luther Obeng, Agona East District Chief Executive, who received the cheque commended the Sankofa Association and the French Embassy for their kind gesture.
He said the Assembly would use the money for the purpose it was donated. He added that that Assembly would bear the remaining 20 per cent of the project cost to complete the project on time.
