HO: Hundreds receive laptops in Volta, Central Regions
Hundreds of students in senior high schools, training colleges, polytechnic and universities in the Volta Region trooped to the Ho Polytechnic to receive better Ghana laptops.
The laptops were distributed free of charge by the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology under the Better Ghana Laptop Project which aims at promoting research and innovation through ICT.
Under the project, individuals apply to the ministry for the laptops while institutions are assigned quantity of the laptops after needs assessment.
The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Sherry Aryeetey who led the distribution said government was determined to ensure students, educational and research institutions are well positioned to partake in the transformation agenda.
He cautioned against misuse of the equipment by beneficiaries.
Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ametefe commended government for including 170 basic schools in the project, saying it will go a long way to enhance academic performance.
He dispelled rumours the laptops were for political purposes and urged beneficiary students to regard such notions.
In a related development, students and educational institutions in the Central Region have received free laptops from government.
In all, 2,554 laptops were distributed to individuals and educational institutions made up of polytechnic, teacher training colleges, nursing training colleges, universities and senior high schools.
The distribution of the free laptops is part of ministry’s Better Ghana Laptop project under which laptops are distributed to institutions and individuals to promote research, teaching and learning.
The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Sherry Aryeetey who led the distribution exercise commended government for mooting the initiative.
She expressed the hope the equipments would stimulate academic performance in schools.
Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe said the NDC government is working tirelessly to ensure transformation of the economy with emphasis on growth and human capacity building.
She asked electorates to retain the party in power to enable it facilitate more developmental projects and programmes.
Similar distributions have taken place in the Northern, Upper East, and Upper West regions.
