LEKMA: Assembly spends GHs 2,454.00 on persons with disability
A totoal of GHs 2,454.00 has been spent on schoolchildren with disability in the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) in the Greater Accra Region.
The sum was to foot medication, glasses and hearing aid bills of 85 Schoolchildren with various forms of impairment and disability after they were assessed at the LEKMA Hospital earlier this year.
The Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly over the years succeeded in creating a cordial relationship with the PWD as well as supporting them in various areas of endeavour as per the requirement of the Disability Act, which mandates MMDAs to set aside 2% of their Common Fund for PWDs.
For instance, in 2008/2009, about 50 sets of wheel chairs were presented to 50 PWDs in the Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Daniel Amartey Mensah said as at now, 115 PWD’s have been screened based on their application and will be presented with equipment and physical cash for business, education as well as medical treatment.
In infrastructural wise, the Assembly has improved on accessibility for the physically challenged persons to the newly built Administration Block.
