BIRIM S:LESDEP beneficiaries to graduate today
The ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) had since assuming power in 2009 initiated several social intervention programmes as part of its contribution to help scale down the rampant unemployment rate in the country.
One of such programmes is the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) which seeks to provide skill training for the youth and assist them in establishing their own businesses.
With regards to that, the Birim South District Assembly is currently holding a graduation ceremony for some persons who were made to undergo skill training in areas such as masonry, phone repairs, refuse management, barbering and hairdressing dressmaking and tailoring among others in the area.
However, beneficiaries are also expected to receive start-kits to enable them start their private businesses.
This was revealed when Ghanadistricts.com was speaking in an interview with Chief Executive, Mr. Baffour Mensah-Takyi concerning recent developments in the area.
The DCE who also spoke on an ongoing GHs 303,000.90 multi-purpose Information Communication Technology (ICT) center at Akyem Achiase made known that project was about 90% completed with only few works left to be done.
He said the facility which was financed through Ghana Investment Fund (GIF) was however aimed at breaching the gap between those in the rural communities and the urban areas in the teaching and learning of ICT.
According to him, the facility is expected to be completed and handed over before January, 2013.
