KETU S:More disabled persons benefit from fund

The two percent common fund reserved for people living with disability continue to impact positively in their lives especially with new measures instituted to ensure smooth administration of the fund.
Mr. Divine Yevoo, the Social Welfare Officer at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly said only last month, the assembly through the management committee of the disability fund disbursed GHs34,000 to 89 beneficiaries. The people according to Mr. Yevoo applied for the fund for various reasons including education, health and for economic purposes.
Of the number, 22 received for education and apprenticeship, 59 for economics while 8 people received wheel chairs to improve their mobility.
He said committee members and the district social welfare department have also been involved in awareness creation as well as engaging beneficiaries in discussions to help them utilize their funds well and expand their businesses.
He noted that more people continue to register and the committee is scrutinizing the list for more beneficiaries to be rolled in.
