AMA:Rescue efforts continue at collapsed Achimota Melcom

Rescue efforts are still ongoing to save the lives of people still trapped under the debris of the collapsed Melcom building at Achimota.
The security services including the military, the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana National Ambulance Service and the National Disaster Management Organization among others have being on this live saving mission since yesterday when the incident happened and continued throughout the night.
About 53 people are so far reported to have been rescued with about 5 deaths and the rest taken to hospitals at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Achimota Hospital and Nsawam Hospital.
President John Mahama cancelled his tour of the Northern Region and visited the scene yesterday where he announced that the Government of Israel has offered their support to help with logistics and experts in rescue efforts. He thus indicated that the Israelis would arrive in Ghana today Thursday 8 November, 2012.
Meanwhile the mayor of Accra has disclosed that the building in question had no permit.
