KMA: LGS schools stakeholders

Workshop

The Local Government Service Secretariat has organized a sensitization workshop for stakeholders for the various Regional Technical Officers from the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti Regions in Kumasi.

It was attended by Regional, Municipal, Metropolitan and District Coordinating Directors, Planning, Finance and Budget Officers as well as other supporting technical and engineering staff of the MMDAs.

The workshop forms part of programmes being organized by the Local Government Service (LGS) to help strengthen Local Government and Administrative Reform in the country to set out generic guidelines for the establishment of decentralized departments of the MMDAs.

Speaking at the workshop, the Head of the Local Government Service, Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu stated that, the need for the establishment of decentralized departments in the various MMDAs have been long over-due and hoped stakeholders and participants after the workshop would speed-up efforts to sensitize and educate staff of the various assemblies to embrace the process for the betterment of the public service in Ghana.

He asked for enough education and information on the whole process to effectively get down to the grass roots level in the various assemblies in order to help erase the perception by some existing departments in MMDAs that were not part of the Local Government Service System.

Mr Oppong-Fosu therefore, underscored, the commitment of the Local Government Secretariat towards ensuring the successful implementation of the programme for effective decentralization process in the country.

Topics treated at the workshop included Human Resource Management Policy, Conditions of Service for staff, Human Resource Protocols and Scheme of Service for Local Government Services.

In all about forty (40) participants attended the workshop.
