BOLGA: Assembly doubles efforts to engage new ‘revenue earners’

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly is still seeking ways to improve revenue mobilization which has for the past years taken a nose dive in the area.

The Assembly, earlier on laid off the old ‘commission earners’ and engaged new task force that would temporarily assist the Assembly do an effective and efficient revenue collection exercise.

But speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Edward Ayiriba Ayagle stressed that the specified period scheduled for the task force to carry out their work has elapsed, indicating that new commission earners must be considered to continue the work in the municipality.

To this end, he said the Assembly had even conducted interviews to that effect and that very soon the competent and capable hands will be hired to support the revenue mobilization exercise in the area.

Mr. Ayiriba maintained that revenue mobilization has not been the best over the years, adding that his focus was to bring in reliable and efficient people who can do the job professionally”, he noted.

He intimated that the Assembly recorded a marked improvement in revenue collection when the task force were engaged which was considerably beyond the performance of the old commission earners.

“Weekly collection rate by some University students who are on vacation and have come to support the Assembly discharge revenue mobilization task has also doubled”, he stated.

According to him, the situation must be tackled seriously to solve the imbalances in the system.
