GA W: Educational projects since 2009 at a glance

Storey classroom blk

As part of the Better Ghana Agenda, the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region has experienced the proliferation of development projects in all of its sectors since 2009.

For this reason however, Ghanadistricts.com takes a look at improvement made in the educational sector so far in the Municipality.

In a document, “Ga West Municipal Assembly: Better Ghana Agenda,” cited by Ghanadistricts.com, since they (NDC) took over power in 2009, uncompleted school projects initiated by the previous administration in the area were duly completed and new ones rolled out.

According to the document, re-roofing of a 6-unit classroom block with office and store at Ofankor was completed at a cost of GHs 42,527.08; also a 2 unit pre-school block with office and staff room at Afuaman was also completed at a cost of GHs 35,731.85, among others.

Also 17 projects were awarded in 2009 at GHs 1,851,008.34 which most of them have been completed and handed over to the appropriate authorities.

According to the document, “these efforts were to mitigate the under tree classroom education, increase enrolment, bring quality education to the door steps of the people as well as enhance human resource in the municipality in the future”.

As time passed, the Ga West Assembly again decided to execute storey building classroom blocks for deprived schools in the area.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com the Presiding Member, Thomas Okine, indicated that the assembly decided to embark on the storey classroom project because land was a scarce commodity in the area.

As at now a total of 5,000 assorted furniture have also been distributed to various schools in the municipality as well as 133 brilliant but needy students also supported to further their education in order to help society should they complete their education.
