AMA: Kotobaabi/Pig Farm residents urged to collaborate to ensure cleanliness

Mr Prince Tamakloe, Assemblyman for Kotobaabi-Pig Farm Electoral Area, has called on electorates to collaborate with other stakeholders in keeping the city of Accra clean.

He said such collaboration would help bring about good sanitation especially among the youth to control the menace of communicable diseases in the communities.

Mr Tamakloe made the call when CHF International and Accra Plastic Waste Management Project officials sensitised members of the Apostles Revelation Society at Pig Farm on Sunday on the benefit of plastic waste separation.

He said the burden on Accra Metropolitan Assembly to ensure good sanitation in all parts of the city was enormous, hence the need for people to help ensure that the communities were free from diseases.

Mr George Amoasah, Senior Project Officer of CHF International, said sensitising the public on the benefits of plastic waste separation would not only contribute to getting rid of filth in Accra but also generate income for the sorters who would sell these materials to the recycling companies.

He said CHF International, with support from the Bill and Belinda Gates Foundation, were implementing a three-year project called Youth Engagement in Service Delivery (YES) to create sustainable solid waste value addition chains.

Mr Amoasah said the YES project had so far funded various value addition facilities comprising compost facilities, trashy and buyback centres in some selected communities in Accra being managed by the youth who had been technically trained and offered business development support by CHF International.

“It is hoped that about 15000 households would separate their plastic waste by the end of the sensitisation period," he said.

Miss Jane Oku of Accra Plastic Waste, said; “The best solution to get rid of littering of sachet waste plastics is what CHF has brought to you,” and urged them to embrace it.

Rev Apostle Brigadier A.N. Tehn-Addy (Rtd), Head Pastor of the Appostles Revelation Society, urged the Assembly to educate the people to be vigilant to help curb indiscriminate littering of sachet water plastic waste in Accra.
