The Eastern Regional Minister, Ambassador Victor Smith has indicated that government is making plans to tackle some selected strategic road infrastructure in the region to reduce the transportation nightmare of the motorist public in the region.
He said government was equally worried about the deplorable state of some roads in the region and share in the pain that the public go through.
However, what is more worrying is the attitude of some contractor who do not show any urgency in the execution of projects awarded to them to the extent that some even scrap off the little surface left, exposing the road to rapid deterioration.
Hon. Victor smith made the discloser at separate meeting with the chief of Asamankese, Osaaberima Kwaku Amoah III and his elders at his palace and in an interaction with Heads of Departments at the West Akim Municipal Assembly.
He indicated that some times it is difficult to stop nonperforming contractors from continuing with projects because rewarding such contracts takes time and come with additional cost.
According to him the time has come for such actions to be taken in spite of the difficulty that exist as that is the only way contractors can be put on their toes and execute projects on time.
On the Suhum- Asamankese road, the Minister said he has had cost to call the two constructors working on the road and directed them to expedite action on the project and carry out some emergency measures to improve the road for users.
