A sod cutting ceremony has been held to commence work on an information communication technology, ICT complex at New Tafo Zongo in the East Akim Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The project funded by the Communication Ministry and estimated at GHs304, 000 included a library, computer laboratory, post office and few offices.
It is one of the measures instituted by government to bring learning of computer skills to the doorsteps of the people and to encourage more youth to appreciate the importance of ICT towards accelerated development.
Performing the sod cutting, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Victor Smith said government is not deterred by geographical locations of most communities since it has shown enough goodwill towards bringing the economic gap between the urban and rural communities.
According to him, the extension of electricity to most rural communities under the rural electrification project is to create conducive platform for improved economic and social activities in such communities including education.
Members of the community who witnessed the ceremony commended government for the consideration given them as well as other educational projects which has improved the status of the community.
Additionally, the community is benefiting from 10-seater toilet facility to help improve sanitary situation in the community.
