The first phase of a two-storey 26-unit market stores under construction at Begoro market is due for completion by the end of the year.
The GHs200, 000 projects which is at the roofing level is being funded solely by the district assembly through its share of the district development fund, DDF and executed through direct labour.
Chief executive of the Fanteakwa District Abass Fuseini Sbaabe who disclosed this to the regional minister, Victor Smith during his tour of the district to inspect achievements under the “Better Ghana” agenda said the assembly has resolved to elevate the market with modern structure to meet current needs of the people and provide the needed comfort for trading activities.
According to him, seeking for improved revenue requires investment in economic infrastructure which the assembly is not relenting on.
To this end, he said the assembly would continue to pull down old structures and replace them with new ones until the entire facility takes a new shape. “We recognize the importance of these facilities to the society and economic improvement in the district and are therefore determined to make significant improvement.”
He however, indicated that due to inadequate funds, this would be achieved over time and called on the people to exercise restraints while the proposed plan is actualized.
