KETU S:5,000 desks for new schools

Dual desks

Over five thousand dual desks have been procured and distributed to newly constructed school blocks in the Ketu South District in the Volta Region.

The initiative which is solely funded by the District Assembly through its District Development Fund (DDF) is aimed at ensuring total comfort for the pupils to promote teaching and learning.

Speaking to Ghandistricts.com, Chief Executive of the district, Bernard Frank Amarble said the assembly is determined to avoid previous misstates of building classrooms blocks without furniture, a situation that compelled students to either improvise or carry their own furniture from home.

According to him, each 6 unit classroom block is being supplied with 120 dual desks while 3-unit school blocks are receiving 60.

“We are not only thinking of new classroom blocks though the concentration is on them. The exercise will continue until we secure all the schools both old and new with enough furniture including that of teachers”, the DCE added.

Mr. Amarble said it is their hope that not long, the issue of inadequate furniture in schools in the district would be a thing of the past. He urged school authorities to ensure proper handling of the desks to avoid early destruction to them.
