All forty-six newly created districts would be inaugurated tomorrow Thursday, June 28 2012, across the country.
As part of his tour of some of the districts in the Volta Region to ascertain the preparedness or otherwise of the newly created districts, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo called on the people to be united as one people to ensure the new districts develop.
The Minister who visited the North Dayi District, Afadzato District and the Ho West District Assembly stated that creation of the new districts was primarily to accelerate development and cautioned the people not to allow issues with citing of district capitals to derail the focus of their creation.
To this end, he urged them to bury their differences and forged ahead in unity of purpose.
At the North Dayi District, the people showed goodwill and their appreciation as they were seen busily clearing the environment for tomorrow’s event.
In other places, temporal structures earmarked to accommodate the District Assembly offices were receiving some rehabilitation for work to start in earnest after the inauguration.
Government has earlier announced a seed capital of one million Ghana cedis to all the newly created District Assemblies for their infrastructural development as well as four million cedis set aside to enable them start their developmental projects.
